There are so many activities swirling about I am
not sure where to focus my attention. Thanksgiving and
then Christmas. Family plans, special worship services, parties, presents, and everywhere I look more things which need attention. I can and sometimes do feel like the latest shiny penny to cross my path is worth chasing. When this happens I often find the urgent things supersede the important things, and then life becomes more chaotic. Yikes!
So how does my soul get settled during busyness? I need an anchor which holds firm and grounds all my thinking and doing. The lyric of a favorite hymn comes to mind:
When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.
---LSB 576, verse 2
In the midst of much doing, please join me as we simply pause and be! Be his creation. Rest in his unchanging grace. He will anchor your life. He can calm the rough seas. He, Jesus, brings peace and order in the midst of chaos. He has all authority over heaven and earth. He has authority over your life. His Spirit living in you grants you authority. Quiet your “shiny penny soul”, by coming again to his house, with his people in beautiful worship. You will find rest for your weary soul in him!
